Schema for Brand SEO/AIO: Talking Directly to the Bots

Use structured data (Schema.org, JSON-LD) to declare your brand entity clearly to Google and other systems, with the limits worth knowing.

Schema for Brand SEO/AIO: Talking Directly to the Bots

Schema Markup is structured data that describes a page to machines. Google recommends the JSON-LD format. For a brand, the main use is to declare the entity clearly: name, logo, website and official profiles.

Schema is not a shortcut to ranking or to being mentioned by AI. Google says features that consume structured data are not guaranteed to appear, and no special markup is required to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode.

Minimum schema types for a brand

  • ◆Organization: name, url, logo, description and sameAs. sameAs is the URL of another page that identifies this entity, such as a social profile or GitHub. Google uses this information to understand and disambiguate the organization, and some properties affect presentation, such as the logo.
  • ◆Person: if there is a founder, declare a Person and link it to the Organization with the schema.org founder property, defined as "a person or organization who founded this organization".
  • ◆WebSite: the website name and URL, using the same name as the Organization.

Implementation rules

  • ◆Only mark up content that is visible to readers, and the data must represent the page content truthfully (Google's structured data policies).
  • ◆Keep the description in schema consistent with the description on the page and on other channels.
  • ◆FAQPage: Google only shows the FAQ rich result for well-known government and health websites, so do not add FAQPage expecting a rich result.

Example: AkiTao

The AkiTao home page declares Organization (alternate names Aki Tao and AkiVN, sameAs to its official profiles), WebSite, the founder as a Person and FAQPage, all in JSON-LD. See also What is a Brand Entity.
